The exhibition ‘Edward Dwurnik: Pride and Shame’ focuses on the artist’s work from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, presenting two of his major painting series, ‘Sportsmen’ and ‘Workers’. Curated by Łukasz Ronduda, the exhibition attempts to read Dwurnik’s work through the emotions that accompanied social change in Poland in the second half of the 20th century. Alongside its retrospective dimension, ‘Pride and Shame’ addresses an issue central to Polish identity over the past half-century: the experience of social and class mobility. The official English title used by the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw is ‘Edward Dwurnik: Pride and Shame’.
The Dwurnik exhibition is accompanied by Patryk Różycki’s artistic intervention ‘Transformation’, comprising a selection of works from 2021–2024. The series of paintings explores the artist’s childhood and adolescence in the countryside, shaped by the economic and social exclusion associated with Poland’s transformation of the 1990s.
The exhibition is open from 31 July 2026 to 28 February 2027 at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.
