I am signed up to your newsletter, but I want you to send it to me in a different language.
There are in fact three different newsletters with separate mailing lists: English, Polish and Russian. If you don't want to be signed up to one of them, we can remove you upon request (or just find the unsubscribe link near the bottom of every newsletter), but we cannot sign you up to a different one ourselves as this would violate GDPR rules. You have to sign yourself up via their landing pages, links here: English, Polish and Russian
I have come into possession of an artwork by a Polish artist. Can you value it for me?
We recommend you contact Poland's three biggest auctioneers: Desa Unicum, Polswiss Art and Agra-Art. We ourselves have nobody on staff capable of doing any sort of valuation.
I am looking into my Polish roots, and want information about my ancestors but it's difficult to come by. Can you help me?
The best place to look for ancestry information these days is the likes of Geni.com, FamilySearch.org, Ancestry.com and MyHeritage.com. There are smaller region-specific databases that cover modern and former Polish territories, including Jewish families, such as Geneteka.Genealodzy.pl, JRI-Poland.org, GenTeam, the Poznan Project, Sub-Carpathia-Genealogy.org, the Pomeranian Genealogical Association, and many others. Be aware that due to the partitions era (when the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was split up and incorporated into Austria-Hungary, Prussia and Russia), ancestry records may be split across multiple countries and require working in multiple languages. We ourselves have nobody on staff capable of doing any sort of ancestry investigation, and any guesswork we did could end up being misleading.
I have found an image on Culture.pl that I would like to use for something I am working on. Can you give me permission?
The images we use are usually bought with a single-use licence and are not ours to give permission for. In almost all cases, we try to ensure that we list a photo's source in its accompanying caption. Some are from creative commons sites such as Wikimedia and Polona.pl, but you will most likely find they are bought from a photo agency. Here are links to some of the most common we use: East News, Polish Press Agency (PAP), Forum, Fototeka, Agencja Gazeta (AG), Getty Images.
I am interested in re-publishing a Culture.pl article on my website or magazine. Who should I contact?
For an article from the English section, write to editors@culture.pl (for Polish to redakcja@culture.pl, and for Russian to novosti@culture.pl). Be prepared to ensure that the original article is carefully and clearly linked to and full credit is explicitly given. Also, please read the related question above about the accompanying images: we will not be able to grant any permissions when it comes to the images we use.
I want to contact an artist or cultural figure featured on Culture.pl. Can you give me their contact information?
Due to GDPR rules, we are not supposed to give out contact information, and often we don't have it anyway! You should always try find the figure's personal website or their agent's website to get in touch.
I would like to contact the author of an article.
You can find most of their email addresses on our About Us page. Otherwise, click on an author's profile to see if there are any contact links there, such as a personal website or their Twitter handle.
Do you accept submissions from writers?
You can send 3-5 pitches, 2-3 sentences long to editors@culture.pl. Due to the volume of submissions, we cannot promise a response.
Do you offer jobs or internships?
Occasionally, yes. Please check the institute's employment pages (the Polish version and English version differ, so check both) and apply there directly.
