Over the next four years, NOVI released three successful albums. In 1968 they recorded their first album abroad. The recording of NOVI in Wonderland took place in the studio of the Saba label in Villingen (West Germany). Billy Lewis Brooks accompanied the band on drums, whilst the famous Idrees Sulieman played the trumpet.
Their next album Torpedo NOVI recorded as a big band accompanied by the Polish Radio Jazz Orchestra. The leading artists of the Polish jazz scene, including Tomasz Stańko, Michał Urbaniak, Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski and Włodzimierz Nahorny, were involved in recording process as well. The album features the well-known songs Torpedo and Something Special. The latter one had its second life in 2006 when it appeared on the compilation Late Night Tales: Belle & Sebastian assembled by this popular Scottish band.
Despite the fast pace of their work, NOVI did not stop surprising their audience. In 1971, they released the album Novi Sing Chopin, which featured vocal interpretations of the most renowned Polish composer. Aleksandra Masłowska reviewed the album on meacultura.pl:
Although quite restrained and conservative in terms of interpretation, it paved the way for the next generations of artists who [...] in Chopin works found the definition of Polishness and Polish music. […] In most of the arrangements, Ewa Wanat plays the first fiddle, but the technical skills of the male voices stand out as well – they are an excellent, delicate accompaniment, complimenting the main melodic line and Chopin’s characteristic harmony.
Five, four, three
In 1973, lead composer Bernard Kawka left the band. Since then, its line-up had been changing frequently until it stabilised in 1977, when Ryszard Szeremeta joined the band. Despite all these fluctuations, NOVI did not stop recording. In 1974, as a trio they recorded Five, Four, Three with compositions by Parzyński and Mych. A year later, an album with the works of Burt Bacharach was released, featuring the Aleksander Mazur Quartet. NOVI's discography concludes with Pay Tribute, on which the Polish artists honoured their musical idols.
NOVI’s recordings have generally met with acclaim both in Poland and abroad. The culmination of the band's international career was the first place in the Best Vocal Group of the World category awarded by the prestigious DownBeat magazine. NOVI disbanded in 1985.
