This collection won Kamila Gawrońska-Kasperska the Gold Thread Competition in 2010.
In this collection she plays with oriental inspirations and the vanguard of the 1920s. There is a lot of black, white and red – the colour of blood. Some projects look like they are dipped in it – which is a reference to the poetics of Fritz Lang’s film. The collection was crowned by delicate silk wings that protrude from the skirts.
The seamstress was terrified. Yet I have a knack for technical things. This collection gave me hope, that I can design clothes like I want to. Also, I created it in a blessed state of complete isolation from the industry – and that won’t happen again.
– the designer said.
The International School of Costume and Clothing Design that Kamila Gawrońska-Kasperska graduated from used the futuristic collars from the Metropolis collection in their graphic design for the school’s promotional materials.
