After two visits to Sao Paulo, one as part of DW! Sao Paulo Design Weekend and the other for an exhibition in Museu Nacional in Brasilia, the time has come for Rio. The exhibition will be showcased in the modern Centro Carioca de Design. This will be the fourth exhibition of The Spirit of Poland series in Brazil.
The opening of The Spirit of Poland coincides with the 5th anniversary of Centro Carioca de Design. It’s a great distinction for the Polish organisers that the Brazilian centre decided to celebrate its birthday with a Polish exhibition.
We really wanted for the exhibition to open on the exact same day that we opened our doors to the Rio audience 5 years ago. Polish design is not famous here, it’s a fresh topic and thus an interesting one. I’m sure that our viewers will find it very interesting.
– said Paula de Oliveira Camarego, the director of Centro Carioca de Design.
2015 is also an important year for the city itself, which will celebrate its 450th birthday in March (it was established on 1st March, 1565).
The fact that we can be in Rio at this unique time is a substantial distinction for Polish design. Rio is a place with an incredibly colourful cultural life, it’s also the headquarters of Brazil’s oldest design schools.
– says Weronika Rochacka-Gagliardi, the co-organiser of the event.
The organisers have arranged lectures, discussion panels and workshops to accompany the event. These happenings are directed at the local artistic and design environments, students of local schools, universities, but also at the broader audience and tourists.
