The biggest contemporary music event in China, Beijing Modern Music Festival, has been hosting Polish musicians for years. This time, the Festival featured string ensemble NeoQuartet, who performed in the Recital Hall of the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) on 30th May 2015. Their concert program included works by Polish composers - Paweł Mykietyn and Aleksander Kościów - as well as a string quartet by Professor Ye Xiaogang, artistic director of the Beijing Modern Music Festival. After the concert in Beijing, on 4th June 2015 NeoQuartet performed at China's another important contemporary music festival: China - ASEAN Music Week in Nanning, in the south of the country.
NeoQuartet a string quartet made up of the graduates of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk, Warsaw and Lucerne: Karolina Piątkowska-Nowicka (1st violin), Paweł Kapica (2nd violin), Michał Markiewicz (viola) and Krzysztof Pawłowski (cello). The quartet specializes in performing contemporary music, aiming at promoting the work of mostly young composers. The musicians often combine contemporary classical music with visual arts, modern dance and electronics, focusing on making the contemporary music familiar to the wider audience. NeoQuartet is the organizer of the NeoArte Festival – New Music Spectrum, which was held for the first time in October 2012. The event is held annually in Gdańsk, each time hosting another prominent composer as a guest of honor. NeoQuartet regularly commissions works by Polish and foreign composers. The list of composers who dedicated their works to NeoQuartet already includes: Sławomir Kupczak, Jakub Polaczyk, Bohdan Sehin, Aleksander Kościów, Oleksij Shmurak, Jerzy Kornowicz, Agnieszka Stulgińska, Marek Czerniewicz, Dariusz Przybylski, Ye Xiaogang, and Gabriel Paiuk.
