Education
Between 2003 and 2008, he studied at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw in two faculties: composition (under Marcin Błażewicz) and organ (under Andrzej Chorosiński). He graduated from both of them with honours i.e., with the ‘Magna cum laude’ medal. In 2006 he went to Hochschule für Musik w Kolonii, thanks to the Socrates/Erasmus scholarship, where he met outstanding tutors such as: York Höller, Hans Ulrich Humpert and Krzysztof Meyer. In 2008 he completed his post-graduate studies (Solistenklasse/Konzertexam) under Wolfgang Rihm, specializing in composition at Hohschule für Musik in Karlsruhe and acquired a Ph.D. at Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. He took part in the Promotion Programme for 13 Composers organized by the European Krzysztof Penderecki Centre For Music, winning the title of Primus Inter Pares in 2007 and 2008.
Discography
His works have been recorded and published on several albums by DUX, Megavox and POLMIC. The recording of his Bogurodzica for organ solo (2003) by Andrzej Chorosiński went double platinum (for an extraordinary number of CDs sold). Moreover he was nominated for a Fryderyk Award (Polish music industry award) for albums: 20 lat Conversatorium Organowego w Legnicy (20th Anniversary of Organ Conservatory in Legnica) and Młodzi Kompozytorzy w hołdzie Chopinowi (Young Composers’ Tribute to Fryderyk Chopin). In 2010 DUX Recording Label published his first solo album with his original compositions only.
Projects
In 2006, he participated in the international composition project Mozart Pyramid which took place in Canterbury (UK) on as part of the celebration of “Mozart’s Year”. In 2009 he was invited to Mittersill in Austria as a ‘composer in residence’ during Komponisten Forum Mittersill Kofomi. In 2010 he went to Bad Ischl to take part in the International Composers Academy.
Educator
Since 2008 he has been teaching composition, instrumentation and counterpoint at Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. In 2010 and 2011 he gave lectures of composition at the Keimyung University w Daegu (South Korea). In 2009-2011 he was a guest professor in Istanbul, Rome and Cuneo, Italy.
Dariusz Przybylski is a member of the Polish Composers’ Union and the Polish Society for Contemporary Music.
Organist
As an organist, Dariusz Przybylski has performed in many concert halls in Poland and abroad. Contemporary music dominates his repertoire but he also often performs as an improviser.
