The twelfth and final volume of the Czytelnik Publishing House's edition of the "Collected Works" of Gustaw Herling-Grudziński (1919-2000). The volume includes the theatrical story Biała noc miłości / White Night of Love, nine short stories written between 1997 and 2000, and the two last and relatively extensive sections of the author's Dziennik pisany nocą / Journal Written at Night, which the author maintained through March 13th of the year 2000.
"Rzeczpospolita" daily previously published entries from this section of the journal in series. "Through his writing, Gustaw Herling-Grudziński pleads with us to work hard to preserve our identity, impressing upon us the fact that our identity is worth any price," wrote Michał Komar. "And this is the great wisdom in Herling's writings. Their value derives from the author expressing his thoughts openly without losing sight of the distinction between frankness and truth."
