Szymanowski composed his "Two Basque Songs" during (or directly after) his stay in Saint Jean-de-Luz in the French Pyrenees in July 1925.
Szymanowski composed his Dwie pieśni baskijskie / Two Basque Songs - Argizagi ederra [Piękny księżyc / Beautiful Moon] and Maitiak bilhoa holli [Ukochane złote włosy / Beloved Golden Hair] during (or directly after) his stay in Saint Jean-de-Luz in the French Pyrenees in July 1925. He was invited there - with Paweł Kochański and his wife - by his American friend Dorothy Jordan-Robinson. The songs were performed by Stanisława Korwin-Szymanowska and the composer (at the piano) at a Szymanowski music concert in Warsaw on 28th April 1926.
The manuscript was never published and did not survive.
