Krzysztof Jaworski's poetry is satirical...
Krzysztof Jaworski's poetry is satirical. As pitilessly as Juvenal, Jaworski (b. 1966) directs his satirical thrust into the most deeply rooted aesthetic and ethical values of Polish culture, and observes the changes which have taken place in these values through the creation of our "modern" consumerist culture. The most exceptional element of his writing is the way in which he distorts individual linguistic patterns in order to demonstrate the helplessness of those using the language in the face of the political and economic reality around them, which is threatening and inhospitable and succeeds in turning them into idiots more effectively than any satirist could. Despite the seriousness of Jaworski's subject matter, he is the most superb literary comedian of his generation.
