The second part of the Don’t Panic! We’re from Poland compilation premièred on 17th November, 2014. The Don't Panic! project was initiated by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in 2008 and by now this characteristic slogan has become a synonym of young, interesting, high-quality music from Poland.
The second part of the compilation is proof that Polish music’s winning streak is still going on and that the Polish music scene still has a lot to offer. The Don’t Panic! We’re from Poland 2.0 album released by Pomaton and Culture.pl features 17 tracks. Only two of them are by artists who also appeared on the album’s first edition. This time, lesser-known artists, often débutantes without any full-length records or even contracts, were opted for. Those already widely appreciated, in turn, appeared with previously unreleased remixes. All of it together creates a set which is colourful in its atmosphere and sound, truly demonstrating just how colourful and intriguing new Polish music can be.
Don’t Panic! We’re from Poland is a comprehensive programme for promoting contemporary Polish music. It consists of concerts, showcases, panels and conferences. As equally important as the presentation of musicians is creating a friendly space for networking activities. The impetus for establishing the project was a need to organize presentations of Polish contemporary artists – events primarily aimed at music industry professionals from abroad. The Warsaw showcase quickly resulted in similar events at the most important festivals around the world.
Over the six years of the Don’t Panic! We’re from Poland project’s dynamic development, Polish musicians have become regular guests at the programmes of the most important European, American and Asian festival such as SXSW, CMJ and Culture Collide in the US, The Great Escape and Liverpool Sound City in the UK, Reeperbahn Festival and C/O Pop in Germany, Eurosonic Noorderslag in the Netherlands, Waves Vienna in Austria, Tallinn Music Week in Estonia, Primavera Sound in Spain and Tokyo Jazz Festival in Japan, and the Warsaw showcase has become a permanent fixture of the programme of the European Music Fair.
The project has also divided itself into events focused separately on jazz, world music, alternative music and heavy sounds, and now has a total of 50 events in 15 countries promoting more than 90 carefully selected artists. The Don’t Panic! We’re from Poland slogan and the characteristic blue and pink rabbit are becoming a synonym of young, interesting and high-quality music from Poland. The project has recently visited Istanbul, Hamburg and Seoul, among others.
