Thanks to augmented reality technology, users can design furniture with adjustable modules using their tablets or smartphones. With a few swipes of the user's fingers, CSTM creates a visualisation of the object and allows it to be fitted in a live image of the actual room. See how it works:
So far, there are two objects available:
IVY – a functional modular shelf which can be placed in the tightest gap or the widest space. The customer can determine its size and the partitioning of its shelves. The intuitive application allows the user to design the shelf in a way that perfectly meets their needs as well as the room’s limitations.
FOLD – a table made out of one piece of metal. It is fully adjustable – the user can change five of its parameters, allowing a whole range of tables to be designed: from small coffee tables to full-size dining room tables.
The next piece of furniture is to premiere by the end of the 2014.
Once an order is placed, the fully automatized manufacturing process starts. It decreases waiting times and creates no overstock, saving money and energy.
CSTM received an award in the Best Technical Achievement category at L.A.’s Launch Festival 2014, the cradle of such projects as Dropbox, Hipmunk, Mint or Spacemonkey.
