Rafał Milach (born in 1978 in Gliwice) is a documentary photographer and a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice and ITF in Opava. For over ten years, he has been working on multiple projects focused on the transformation of Russian-speaking countries, and of Central and Eastern Europe. His work resulted in multiple photo essays: Gray (2002), Wunderland (2006), Black Sea of Concrete (2009) and 7 Rooms (2011). Milach's photographs were exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Shanghai and are part of the permanent collection of the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Art in Japan. They were also presented at festivals such as Photoespana, Look3 and Rencontres Photographiques in Arles, France. Milach's photographs have received awards from World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International, Photography Book Now and New York Photo Festival. Milach is a co-founder of the Sputnik Photos collective – their joint project, the album IS (not), which includes photographs taken in Iceland, was released in early 2011. He is also a co-creator of the books Rough Cut, 25/25 and Don't Mess With Texas, published during Photomonth in Kraków 2011.
