Symphony No. 4 by Witold Lutosławski (1992) was commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. It was first performed by the same ensemble, under Lutosławski, on the occasion of the composer's 80th birthday, at the Los Angeles Music Center Pavilion on 5th February 1993.
Lutosławski's last work of its genre, Symphony No. 4 is a synthesis of his symphonic style, generating a mood of concentration, meditation, reverie and nostalgia.
