While Warsaw Gallery Weekend, taking place each autumn in commercial galleries around the Polish capital, gives us a taste of the art mainstream, FRINGE Warszawa opens the floor to the venues and artists existing outside of it.
Featuring non-profit galleries located in inner-city garages, unfinished apartments and hair salons, and ephemeral exhibitions in artisanal confectioneries and currency exchanges – initiatives of artistic collectives that speak openly about economic difficulties. The scattered, temporary and experimental projects presented during FRINGE come into being simultaneously, supplementing the Warsaw art scene.
Katie Zazenski, one of the creators of FRINGE, tells us about the biggest FRINGE held so far, and the exhibition at Stroboskop Art Space which she curates.
This video is part of our new series Slices of Poland, presenting assorted audiovisual bites of Polish culture, from milk bars to artist studios, and everything in between.
