Today is the cinema premiere of Bartek Konopka and Piotr Rosołowski's Art of Disappearing, a tale of Socialist Poland seen through the eyes of a Haitian voodoo priest.
A Haitian voodoo priest performs a voodoo ceremony on the day of the imposition of martial law in 1981 to help free General Jaruzelski, the Polish leader, from evil spirits. The General's rigid posture and his bloodshot eyes hidden under dark sunglasses tell the foreign guest that Jaruzelski is possessed by the wicked demon of Baron Samedi. The priest searches for the truth about the soul of a nation that has been subdued by foreign domination for centuries.
