Yugong Yishan, which gave name to the club, is a Chinese proverb about a foolish man who wants to remove a mountain and, unexpectedly to all, he succeeds in it. Yugong Yishan from 2004 to 2007 was a tiny live house located in a parking lot accross the Worker's Stadium in Beijing. The venue, being a platform for local and international bands, was awarded "Best Live House" by the cultural guide That's Beijing in 2005, 2006 and 2007. In July 2007, due to the forthcoming Olympic Games in Beijing (2008), the venue was torn down, but in September the same year Yugong Yishan celebrated its reopening in a much bigger space in the heart of Dongcheng District. Now the venue occupies a space of 850 m2, able to host 500 to 700 people, with a 5 meter-wide stage and a brand new sound system.
