The Museum of the City of Szczecin, housed in the Old Town Hall, opened in 1975 as a division of the National Museum in Szczecin in commemoration of the thirtieth anniversary of Szczecin's liberation. This Gothic and Baroque building, designed by Heinrich Brunsberg, dates from the late fourteenth and early fifteenth centuries.
The Museum tells the history of Szczecin from the earliest times to the present through archaeological finds on and around the castle hill; historical representations of the city, including unique seventeenth and eighteenth century engravings; a collection of approximately 200 maps; mementoes connected with people and events; handicrafts, including pewter items; ornamental metalwork; guild chests; furniture; silver; nineteenth century porcelain; a collection of military objects, including some from the Second World War and post-war years; and thirteenth and fourteenth century coins.
Permanent exhibition: "The History and Culture of Szczecin from the Earliest Times to the Present" – in commemoration of the 750th anniversary of Szczecin's charter.
