Krakowska Jesień Jazzowa (Krakow Jazz Autumn) is one of important festivals of avant-garde music in Europe. It was initiated by Marek Winiarski, the founder of Not Two Records, one of the most recognizable record labels specializing in the avant-garde in the world.
The festival was the host of the premiere of Ken Vandermark’s Resonance or performances by Mats Gustafsson’s Nu Orchestra, Barry Guy’s New Orchestra, Peter Brötzmann’s Yatagarasu or DKV Trio. The concerts of large ensembles are usually accompanied by chamber concerts of their members. One of the sets, Mad Dogs - Barry Guy New Orchestra (small formations) was recorded on a 5-CD album released by Not Two Records.
Krakow Jazz Autumn takes place in the Alchemia Club in Kazimierz District as well as in the halls of the Manggha Centre of Japanese Art and Technology.
It has hosted names like Anthony Braxton, Barry Guy, Ken Vandermark, Mats Gustafsson, Joe McPhee, Agusti Fernandez, Tim Daisy, Dave Rempis, Michael Zerang, Steve Swell as well as the leading figures of Polish improvised music: Mikołaj Trzaska, Wacław Zimpel, Mikrokolektyw, Rafał Mazur, Dominik Strycharski.
