Situated in the heart of Bangalore city, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath was established in 1960. Since the mid-sixties the complex has been a leading centre for visual arts both in the city and the state. It comprises of a network of museums, galleries and archives displaying a valuable collection of Indian visual culture that includes folk, traditional, modern and contemporary art.
Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath is also a tourist spot, a centre for visual discourse and space for visiting artists from all over the globe. It also hosts the College of Fine Arts, carrying out undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes in visual arts for Indian and foreign students. The center has the objective of becoming world class museum complex that can enrich the manner in which art history is seen and understood by audiences, and also becoming a learning space for students and visitors.
