Despite its short, 10 years’ history, Jazztopad Festival in Wrocław has rapidly become one of the most significant events in the jazz calendar of Poland and Central Europe. The trademark of the festival, organized by the Wrocław Philharmonic, are the world premieres – projects and compositions written to special order of the organizers by most prominent artists of contemporary improvised music including Charles Lloyd, Uri Caine, William Parker, Fred Hersch and Terje Rypdal, whose festival concert was recorded on the album Melodic Warrior and released by ECM.
During Jazztopad jazz spreads all over the city: from concert halls, through cinemas to private homes. Another crucial element is international cooperation. Jazztopad participates in the platform JazzPlays Europe and the project Take Five Europe, which are comprised of the greatest jazz festivals in Europe: North Sea Festival, London Jazz Festival, Moldejazz, Jazz sous les Pommiers, Banlieues Bleues and La Dynamo.
Jazztopad has already been a scene for stars like Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, Charles Lloyd, Dave Liebman, Fred Hersch, Bobo Stenson, Bill Frisell or Terje Rypdal.
