Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of the Cultures of the World) in Berlin is a national centre, created as a space to present and discuss contemporary international art, with a special focus on cultures and societies from outside Europe. The centre presents art exhibitions, theatre and dance performances, author readings, film séances and academic conferences.
The building located in the Tiergarten Park, was initially a home to Kongresshalle conference hall, which was a gift to Berlin from the United States of America. Hugh Stubbins designed the building in 1957 as a part of the International Architecture Exhibition (Internationale Bauausstellung).
