Centre for Contemporary Art at Ujazdowski Castle
The Centre was founded in 1985 with a mission to promote the creation and documentation of all forms of contemporary art, from exhibition, performances, presentations of visual theatre, concerts of contemporary music, to experimental films, video art and creative workshops, as well as various interdisciplinary events. CCA realises about 500 projects a year. It also host artists from abroad as part of its residency program.
The centre is housed in a 17th Century castle that once belonged to Stanisław Lubomirski. The building was demolished during World War II and was rebuilt during the Seventies and reverted to its original shape.
The CCA has hosted over 600 shows, featuring such renowned artists as: Magdalena Abakanowicz, Eric Anderssen, Ron Arad, Ay-O, Janusz Bałdyga, Krzysztof Bednarski, Jerzy Bereś, Włodzimierz Borowski, John Cage, Marek Chlanda, Tomasz Ciecierski, Hannah Collins, Zbigniew Dłubak, Peter Downsbrough, Stanisław Dróżdż, Irene Fortuyn/O'Brien, Frank O.Gehry, Antony Gormley, Francisco Goya, Geoffrey Hendricks, Lynn Hershman, Dick Higgins, Jenny Holzer, Ilya Kabakov, Alison Knowles, Joseph Kosuth, Jarosław Kozłowski, Katarzyna Kozyra, Barbara Kruger, Mariusz Kruk, Zbigniew Libera, Hanna Łuczak, David Mach, Roberto Matta, Henry Moore, Matt Mullican, Hermann Nitsch, Richard Nonas, Yoko Ono, Roman Opałka, Dennis Oppenheim, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Joanna Przybyła, Józef Robakowski, Jerzy Rosołowicz, Ursula von Rydingsvard, Andres Serrano, Mikołaj Smoczyński, Haim Steinbach, Jana Sterbach, Leon Tarasewicz, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Zbigniew Warpechowski, Emmett Williams, Richard Wilson, Krzysztof Wodiczko.
