The first solo exhibition of Zofia Rydet (1911–1997) in Great Britain reveals the multi-dimensionality of the creativity of one of the most important Polish photography artists of the 20th century. Her works combined surrealist collage with documentary reportage, and her groundbreaking project Sociological Record (1978–1990) will be presented in London. This project of over 20,000 black-and-white portraits of families and individuals in the interiors of their homes, started when she was 67 years old, documents the social and political transformation of Poland on the eve of a turning point. Zofia Rydet treated each picture as a living document. Her meticulousness and respect for the people she portrayed make this collection a priceless record today. The exhibition is accompanied by the first English-language publication to bring the artist closer to the British public.
