Nicolae Grigorescu (1838-1907) is considered to be the national painter of Romania. Through studying art in Paris and adhering to the Barbizon art movement, he became the artist who, to the highest degree, brought the modernity in the Romanian painting.
Grigorescu became known in Romania as a national painter, also occupying an important place in the general history of art, not only, after all, thanks to his folk themes, but also as a result of the recognition of his exceptional talent and proficiency, which elevated him to artistic heights.
The exhibition runs from 27 July to 27 October 2024, Department of Modern Art, Abbots' Palace, Cystersów 18, Gdańsk.
