The painter became interested in computer graphics in mid-1990s. ‘Creating graphics with the use of computer programmes came from Beksiński’s openness to the modern technology, to new possibilities. It was precisely his curiosity about technology that led to the creation of these works – the director of the Historical Museum in Sanok and the artist’s friend told the Polish Press Agency. This period in Beksińki’s oeuvre could be divided into two stages. From 1995 to 1999, he used digitally manipulated photographs as the base material of his compositions. ‘Thus created visions are similar to his paintings from the fantasy period, dominated by a surreal, metaphysical space structured by using realistic chiaroscuro’ – Banach stressed. His works from that time were used for instance by his son Tomasz as illustrations of his press articles or music album artworks.
