The exhibition, which featured a cross-section of Polish art over the ages, was organized by the National Museum in Warsaw and Culture.pl. The National Museum of China gave over 2000 square metres to present Polish art from the Middle Ages (14th–15th century), old Polish art (16th–17th century), the times of the Partitions (19th century), and the Young Poland period (turn of the 19th and 20th centuries), as well as contemporary pieces. The exhibition consisted of almost 350 items from 17 Polish museums, among them colourful and splendid clothing and fabrics from the 16th and 17th centuries, and armour of the famed Polish hussars, as well as paintings by Jan Matejko, Wojciech Fangor, and Jerzy Nowosielski and objects related to the life of Fryderyk Chopin. Treasures from Chopin's Country was unprecedented, and the most prestigious event in the history of cultural relations between Poland and China. It was also the largest exhibition of Polish art ever held outside of Poland.
The exhibition received a very positive response from the viewers, as evidenced by the enthusiastic posts in the Chinese social media:
The exhibition 'Treasures from Chopin's Country' at the NMC - over 300 objects: oil painting, sculpture, crafts, decorative objects - tells the story of Polish religious life, history, culture, as well as love and suffering. Exhibition halls were designed basing on the colors of the Polish flag, white and red, and in one of them Chopin's music is played. That's where we start learning about Poland. At the entrance, the visitors are welcomed by a map showing Poland's changing borders during the heyday and decline of the state. I strongly recommend this exhibition!

During every visit to the NMC, I feel like spending there a very long time. This time was no different. It was a chance to sink in a different culture. At the same time, I watched and made notes: I could use some extra pairs of eyes and hands to absorb it all!
