For many years Sinfonia Varsovia, Poland's leading symphony orchestra, has been performing yearly at La Folle Journée in Japan. This time, the musicians extended their tour to China, starting with the most prestigious venue in the country, the Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA). The orchestra, which has co-operated with the world's best conductors and soloists, performed under Maestro Jerzy Maksymiuk, the former chief conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and one of most distinguished Polish conductors of all time. The programme presented the best of Polish music of the 19th and 20th centuries, including works by Fryderyk Chopin, Grażyna Bacewicz, Andrzej Panufnik and Henryk Mikołaj Górecki. At the NCPA, the orchestra performed with the famous Chinese pianist, Chen Sa, while in Tianjin with Polish pianist Paweł Wakarecy. The tour of Sinfonia Varsovia was co-organised by Culture.pl.
