Polish Crab Houses Awarded in A’Design Competition
This week in Milan, the A’ Design Competition announced that Polish architects Dagmara Oliwa and Anita Luniak will receive an award for their Crab Houses Multifunctional complex. The award will be presented at a gala on 9th June 2017.
The Crab Houses complex were designed to sit on the slopes of the Wieżyca mountain, overlooking the sleepy Silesian town of Sobotka. The complex consists of two residential buildings, a workshop and a research lab. The peculiar design of the buildings was ‘inspired by sea crabs entering a rippling sea of grass’ and are meant be a link between the natural world of the mountain above and the urban environment of the town below. In a similar way, the Crab Houses aim to bring artists, scientists, and the residents of Sobotka together within its confines. The architects, Oliwa and Luniak, hope that their project will spur innovation and creativity in the area.
