Philosopher Krzysztof Michalski’s work The Flame of Eternity: An Interpretation of Nietzsche’s Thought was made available to English-language readers in December 2013.
The Flame of Eternity, considered one of the most original analyses of Nietzsche’s philosophy, revolves around Michalski’s interpretation of the concepts of eternity and impermanence through a physiological perspective. Published by Princeton University Press, the book was translated by Benjamin Paloff, Professor of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Michigan. Paloff has previously translated several works by the post-modernist writer Marek Bieńczyk as well.
Tamsin Shaw of the New York Review of Books, writes: There was a deep continuity between the vision set out in The Flame of Eternity and the life [Krzysztof Michalski] lived. . . . His thought informed his life; and his life, as a thinker, a lover, a friend, is integrated in moving ways into his final work.
Throughout his life, Krzysztof Michalski taught philosophy at the University of Warsaw. at Heidelberg University, at the Churchill College of Cambridge, and at Boston University. He also founded the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna, of which he was the rector until his death in February 2013.
