A quiet story about nature, freedom, and a wild river in the middle of Europe from two filmmakers friends Piotr Ivan Ivanov and Krzysztof Dziomdziora. The moody musical narrative with music by Paula and Karol, Mitch & Mitch and others, underlines the serenity of the surroundings. The flowing river illustrates time passing, the lingering feeling of nostalgia remaining. Unimposing and calm, Wszystko Płynie/ Flowing stimulates thoughts about a forgotten sense of connectedness with nature.
In an exclusive interview for culture.pl, the debut filmmakers talk about their inspiration:
Ivan met his high school friend, who had not been treated kindly by fate. But in spite of adversities, he had repaired an old boat and decided to sail from Warsaw to ... wherever it reached. We had always loved to spend time on the Vistula River and concluded that this was a good subject for our documentary.
Following a growing global trend, and aiming to preserve the peacefulness of the ensure environment, the film was shot with digital photo cameras (dSLRs). Ivanov and Dziomdziora add,
The [dSLRs] gave us a lot of opportunities and constraints. We've saved on the amount of lighting – most of the photography was performed with available light. We had, through adapters access to a range of good lenses. [...] Most importantly, however, was that a small and modest amount of equipment ensured quietness on set, not "unsettling" our heroes. The film crew in no way interfered with the surroundings. This intimate atmosphere definitely translated into the character of the movie.
The independent production raised money for itself through social networking.
