Oko w oko, published by Nasza Księgarnia, though by definition addressed to youth, is an engaging and visually intriguing book. The harmonious combination of text with Wilczek's great macro photographs brings to mind some of the notable study projects bordering on natural sciences and art, such as the photographs by the master of the genre Karl Blossfeldt. Just like Blossfeldt, Wilczek, more or less intuitively drifted towards abstraction and tried to enter into a dialogue with contemporary aesthetics. In both cases, it is tempting to search for connections between photography and exploration in contemporary visual arts. In this regard, Wilczek's macro-photographic world of insects perfectly matches the visual spirit of the post-thaw modernity of the late 1950s, the offensive to introduce abstraction also in the applied arts, as well as the fascination with the micro and macrocosmos, and the aesthetics of structures and organic forms.
