'Drive Your Plow over the Bones of the Dead' is a moral thriller that will keep you guessing until its very last page.
The action takes place in Kotlina Kłodzka in south–western Poland. Janina Duszejko – a former bridge engineer, present-day village school English and geography teacher and janitor of holiday homes – is the main character. She has a passion for astrology and a love for animals. Whenever they are in danger, Janina defends them and stands up for their rights. Unsurprisingly, nobody cares about a woman who thinks that the world is a reflection of things inscribed in the stars and reads William Blake after hours.
Yet, poachers and animal abusers start to die in the area. The death toll increases. Janina has her own theory regarding the motive of the murderer, but the police neglect it, treating her like a harmless crank. Janina, however, knows more because she reads the stars like a book.
Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead was nominated for the Nike Literary Award 2010.
