The World Press 2013 winner presents her sensual, emotive portraits of albinism in Warsaw. Her subjects are ethereal, nearly washed out, presenting a distinctive perspective on people with the condition. Albinism is also associated with problems with sight - Bedyńska's subjects all come from schools for young people with vision impairments. While the condition is not typically associated with persecution in Europe, in Africa it is associated with magic or evil. Her principle pursuit is to capture beauty - a sort of beauty that is entirely different from what we see in the pages of magazines.
One of the images in the series won in World Press Photo's third prize in the People - Staged Portraits Single category in 2013. The whole series is on show at the Apteka Sztuki Gallery in Warsaw between the 11th of May - 2nd of June. For more information, see: www.aptekasztuki.eu
