Located in the heart of the city, Derby’s Museum and Art Gallery is home to a diverse range of nationally (and internationally) important collections.
Established in 1836, it was opened to the public only in 1879. The building was designed by British architect Richard K. Freeman. The museum's collection includes painting (extensive collection of paintings by Joseph Wright, George Bailey, David Payne, George Turner), large display of Royal Crown Derby and other porcelain, as well as fascinating displays featuring archaeology, geology, natural history, military history and other fine art. The gallery is an exhibition space and a venue hosting international festivals, including FORMAT International Photography Festival. Polish artists exhibiting at Derby’s Museum and Art Gallery include: members of the Sputnik Photos (2015), Dariusz Fortas (2013), Filip Ćwik (2011), Paweł Fabjański (2011).
