A post-modern opera venue in the exclusive Cairo district of Zamalek.
Cairo Opera House is one of the most beautiful examples of post-modern architecture in Egypt. Its basic shape was designed by the Italian architects Avoscaniego and Rossiego in 1869 during the rule of Khedive Ismail to celebrate the openeing of the Suez Canal. In 1971, the building was completely burnt down, and it was rebuilt in 1988 according to a redesign by a Japanese architect.
The opera house has concert halls, a museum and an open-air theatre.
