'I love cheap clothes,' says Hanka Podraza, a costume designer who restricts herself (with very few exceptions) to using fabrics found in second-hand clothing stores. Her love for second-hand things originated from a walk she took through Kraków, during which she was passed by a woman wearing the exact same shirt she had on herself. From that moment on, she never bought any more clothes from chain stores. For this artist, it is not just a question of aesthetics – you can find some real pearls digging through second-hand stores – but also of ethics. Podraza treats the environment with care, avoiding unnecessary excesses. Her dream is for the costumes she creates to be washed only in ecological powders.
