With its pictures ranging from art to documentation of the ordinary, the Swiss Mecca of photography captivates not only hardened fans. Both contemporary and classical photography find a fascinating setting in the Museum of Photography.
Whether fashion or architecture, industry or craft, professional life or leisure time – the view through the lens provides access to other worlds. With its changing exhibitions the Museum of Photography makes sure that this access is not reserved solely for photographers. The works of classical masters of the 19th and 20th century let the mind wander back to the past, whilst the photographs of contemporary artists dwell in the here and now.
Since autumn 2003 the Museum of Photography has teamed up with the Fotostiftung Schweiz (Swiss Foundation for Photography) and thus constitutes a unique centre of excellence for photography. It comprises a bistro, a library, seminar rooms, a lounge and a shop. Every year new sections from the extensive collection are presented in five large-scale exhibitions. This consists of works by countless famous artists such as Nan Goldin, Fischli/Weiss, Robert Frank and many more.
