Dobromiła Jaskot was born on 29th May 1981 in Toruń. She studied composition with Lidia Zielińska at the Academy of Music in Poznań (graduating with honours in 2005). She continued her studies at the Postgraduate Programme of Special Digital, Film and Theatre Composition at the Academy of Music in Wrocław. She completed her degree in 2007. She studied also at the Postgraduate Programme in the Field of Film Music, Computer Music and Audiovisual Work at the Academy of Music in Łódź. In 2011, she obtained a PhD degree in composition at the Academy of Music in Wrocław with a piece Echeveria for symphonic orchestra.
She has participated in numerous courses for composers and performers, among them, the National Composition Course in Jelenia Góra (1999), Chamber Music Course in Nowy Sącz (1999), Course for Performers of 20th Century Piano and Vocal Music in Bystrzyca Kłodzka (1999, 2000), Acanthes International Composition Course in Villeneuve-les-Avignon (2002), International Contemporary Music Workshop Kraków/Stuttgart (2002), International Contemporary Music Workshop - New Technologies and Multimedia Art in Gdańsk (2002), New Music – contemporary composition techniques Composition Workshop in Warsaw (2003), International Bartók Seminar in Szombathely, Hungary (2003) and the interactive music workshop in Wrocław (2005).
Dobromiła Jaskot has received awards in Poland and around the world in composition and performance competitions. In 1999 she took home the Third Prize in the Polish Composition Competition Crescendo in Tarnów, and as a pianist, she took part in the finale of the Competition of 20th Century Music for Young Performers; in 2000, she received First Prize during the National Composition Competition Forum of the Young in Warsaw. In April 2005, she was among the finalists of the International Composition-Piano Competition Kultursalon Hoerbige in Vienna, while in 2008, she received Third Prize in the Zbigniew Herbert Composition Competition organized in connection with the PROBALTIC Festival. She also qualified for the Second Stage of the first edition of the OPUS Public Media Award. Apart from this, she received: the Award of the President of the Town of Toruń (2000), the Minister of Culture and National Heritage grant for special musical achievements (2000, 2004, 2007, 2012), a grant from the AUKSO Foundation (2004) and from the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung Foundation (2007), scholarships of Polish Society of Authors and Composers ZAiKS (2010), Fund for Promotion of Creativity (2010) and Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship Marshall (2013). In 2010, she participated in CCM Composer-in-Residence Project at Mills College in California.
Her compositions have been a part of many major international festivals, such as: the UltraSchall International Festival for New Music in Berlin, Warsaw Autumn, Musica Electronica Nova, Musica Polonica Nova, Poznań Musical Spring , the Malta Theatrical Festival, Contemporary Music Week in Esbjerg, MUSMA European Broadcasting Festival, Other Minds Festival in San Francisco and Totally New Music Festival in Perth (Australia). Her work have been also performed in Germany, Holland, Hungary, Denmark, Austria, Portugal and it has been broadcast, among others, by Deutschlandradio Kulture, Rundfunk Berlin Brandenburg, Program 2 of the Polish Radio, Radio Bis, Radio Copernicus and Radio Monaliza. On 7 April 2006, the Grand Theatre – National Opera in Warsaw staged the world premiere performance of her interactive chamber opera - Fedra (2005-2006). The performance was noted by the polish biweekly Polityka and named one of the eight most important events of the year in Classical and Contemporary Music category.
Dobromiła Jaskot has collaborated with leading contemporary music interpreters, such as Ensemble Modern, Mercury Quartet, Flute o’clock, and Anton Lukoszevieze, among others.
She has been working as a lecturer and organiser of artistic events in new media, having been a director of new media festivals and various electro-acoustic concerts. She is also active as a pianist performing contemporary classical music. From 2005 to 2015 she was an adjunct professor at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz where she taught composition at the Studio of Electro-Acoustics. Currently she lives and works in Australia.
