Deuter was founded in Warsaw in 1980 by singer Paweł "Kelner" Rozwadowski (formerly of Fornit), along with bassist Dariusz Katuszewski (of Atak), drummer Kamil Stoor (of Kryzys) and guitarist Piotr Dubiel (of TZN Xenna). After giving their first concerts at the Hybrydy Club in Warsaw, Deuter joined two other legendary punk bands, Dezerter and Xenna, on their "Rock Galicja" tour in the spring of 1982. The following year, Deuter was suspended and Rozwadowski and Robert Brylewski founded the reggae-influenced group Izrael.
Deuter returned in 1984 with a new line-up and new influences, notably funk and soul. Their first single, Średniowiecze, was released the following year, with Piotr "Fala" Falkowski on drums, Tomasz "Kciuk" Jaworski on bass, Piotr Nalepa on guitar and Beata Pater on vocals.
Deuter recorded several new songs in 1987 in the RSC Studio in Rzeszów, with Piotr Subotkiewicz on keyboard and Brylewski on guitar. The album 1987 was released a year later, clearly drawing inspiration from funk, soul and rap music. In the autumn of 1989 Deuter disbanded once again, getting back together only occasionally between 2000 and 2003 for a series of concerts.
The band's latest incarnation appeared in the spring of 2010, featuring Rozwadowski supported by a new line-up: guitarist Dario Litwinczuk, drummer Piotr Susul and bassist Franz Dreadhunter.
