The Polish alphabet has taken over the urban spaces of capitals around the world: Teatr Wiczy's public space project has found an intriguing way to acquaint viewers with prominent figures and significant phenomena of Polish culture in Kiev
“Polish ABC - Art Becomes Closer” is an interdisciplinary, interactive project conducted by Teatr Wiczy theatre company. The project is performed in public spaces of designated cities: Madrid, London, Kiev, Minsk, Moscow, Beijing, and Tokyo. As part of Polish ABC various artistic actions and happenings are taking place in various places around the cities. The Kiev locations are as follows: Khreshachatyk Street, Independence, Besarabsky Square and other venues.
Huge letters are installed in each city's most frequented public places, spelling out the names of acclaimed Poles. The happenings, which invite a wide public and a chance for passers-by to look into Polish culture, are documented by photographers and will be published on the www.polishabc.eusite. The overall idea is to showcase the richness of Polish culture by, literally, spelling out the names of the country’s most renowned creatives.
Teatr Wiczy, which started in 1991,is a group which originates in the alternative punk scene and its performances are most often stage-shows and open-air events. Wiczy actors employ improvisation elements, performance-art, the happening convention, as well as avant – vaudeville.
Polish ABC [Art Becomes Closer] kicked off in Madrid, then travelled to London and to Kiev. The happening continues on to Minsk, Moscow, Beijing and Tokyo.

Venue: Various locations in Kiev
