This Warsaw band has been recognized as a great concert highlight for years. They are now permanent Open’er Festival guests in summer, they have also played at the Przystanek Woodstock / Woodstock Station, and at the Juwenalia student spring festival series, they receive the best timeslots. No one else in Poland can play such upbeat dance music, and especially live. Dick4Dick have made such attempts, but were overdone by Łąki Łan – thanks to their style and level of absurdity, as well as the music itself.
They are not interested in creating masterpieces; they do not discover brand new musical fields. Their strength is a result of their shameless inspiration from the founding father of funk – George Clinton. Like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Łąki Łan spice up the master’s music with punk energy and seem to have a lot of fun doing it. They add even more disco to it, and a little bit of electronics. One finds various genres mixed in the background, such as house or blues.
On top of that we can hear absurd and light words, which introduce the rustle of Polish language and homonyms:
Napatoczyłem się na patyczaki/i potoczyłem się za nimi w krzaki/patrzę, a tam patyczaków paczka/raczy się hucznie pączem z maślaczka.
I stumbled across some stick insects/and I rolled after them into the bushes / I look and see a bunch of stick insects / loudly indulging in a suillus punch.
Irritating? Maybe stupid? Rock has always been like that.
At concerts, the play with words transforms into a play with the audience. They are Poland’s most vibrant band. They live in a field of grass; they perform in insect costumes, and are eager to sing of the profits that come from stimulating one’s imagination with natural substances. They don't use playback or voiceover when performing on TV. Once, when they were forced to do it, they appeared on stage with a bunch of acoustic guitars – they were pretending on air that they are squeezing the fierce, electric rock out of those instruments. They are punk not only because of the music they play, but also because of their approach to performing it.
