Celebrating the 70th anniversary of the auteur's birth and the 15th anniversary of his death, the ABC cinema in Toulouse presents a month-long series of films by the acclaimed director, and an exhibition entitled The World of Krzysztof Kieślowski
One of the influential Polish film directors of the last twenty years, Kieślowski's films have won worldwide acclaim, most notably the Three Colours Trilogy and the Decalogue series of TV films, nominated for international awards including the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
His simple stories deal with difficult, fundamental and universal questions about complex human feelings. His feature films capture the role of chance and transcendence in human life, and his oeuvre attempts to ask and answer the daunting question "How should one live?". The ABC cinema screens new digital versions of the artistic and box-office successes The Three Colours trilogy, the entire Decalogue series, other features and his early documentaries.
The largest French retrospective of films by Krzysztof Kieślowski, Le Monde Selon Krzysztof Kieślowski / The World of Krzysztof Kieślowski, began its tour in Paris in September 2012. Screenings are accompanied by an exhibition of the Polish director's photos taken during his studies in Łódź, courtesy of his widow, Maria Kieślowska, personal memorabilia, and a gallery of international posters to his films.
The exhibition is prepared by the Łódź Museum of Cinematography, co-financed by the Polish Film Institute and presented in Toulouse thanks to the Apolina Association. Since 2011, the exhibition has traveled through 40 countries.
