"Essential Killing" by Jerzy Skolimowski, "Różyczka" / "Little Rose" by Jan Kidawa-Błoński nominated for the Polish Eagle Awards 2011 (Orły) in the 'Best Polish Film' Category, along with "Wszystko co kocham" / "All that I Love" by Jacek Borcuch. Winners will be announced on March 7, 2011.
The list of nominations for the awards in 2011 in each category were announced on February 7 in Warsaw. In the 'Best Actress' category the nominees were: Urszula Grabowska - for her role in
Joanna, Magdalena Boczarska - for her role in
Różyczka" / "Little Rose and Olga Frycz for her role in
Wszystko co kocham" / "All that I Love. In the Best Actor category, the nominees were: Vincent Gallo - for his role in
Essential Killing, Robert Więckiewicz - for his role in Różyczka and
Mateusz Kościukiewicz - for his role in Wszystko co kocham" / "All that I Love.
Two directors were nominated in the 'Discovery of the Year' category:
Piotr Dumała for the film Las and Arkadiusz Jakubik, director of the film Prosta historia o miłości and the young actor, Mateusz Kościukiewicz, who starred in All that I Love.
Also announced were the nominations for best European film screened at Polish cinemas in 2010. The films were The Ghost Writer by
Roman Polański (France / Germany / UK), A Prophet by Jacques Audiard (France / Italy) and Death in Venice by Luchino Visconti (Italy / France).
This year thirty-two Polish films (and their creators) were submitted for the competition. To qualify, each film would have been shown for at least a week in public cinemas over the previous year.
The Polish Film Awards are awarded by members of the Polish Film Academy, which has a membership of about five hundred artists and people connected with the cinema industry.
This year marks the thirteenth edition of Polish Film Awards. The winners will be announced during a cermony to be held on March 7, 2011 at Teatr Polski in Warsaw. On March 2, the winner of the "Lifetime achievement" honour were announced.
