On the 25th of October at 7:30 pm, people around the world will be able to log onto the Internet and listen to the live webcast concert by the Warsaw Philharmonic for the first time. Conducted by their new maestro, Jacek Kaspszyk, the orchestra will perform Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection".
One of the most important, moving works of late Romanticism, this piece by Mahler will be broadcast to a global audience as part of a new initiative to increase public access to classical music. Professional orchestras around the globe are increasingly offering the opporunity to tune into their performances online.
Those who would like to listen to the broadcast simply need to go to either of these websites:
Both the orchestra and choir of the Warsaw Philharmonic will be conducted by their new artistic director, Jacek Kaspszyk, with Iwona Sobotka (soprano) and Maria Forsström (alto) appearing as the soloists. The choir worked with Henryk Wojnarowski in preparation for the performance.
A subsequent transmission is already planned for early next year to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth the Warsaw Philharmonic's former director, Witold Rowicki. These broadcasts will be included in the orchestra’s regular schedule next season. There are also plans to release a DVD of highlights from their best concerts.
