Tomasz Różycki is among 12 poets representing four continents who will read their poems in front of an audience gathered at the Lewis Center for the Arts in Princeton. Besides Różycki and numerous famous American poets, authors from Belarus, Ghana, the United Kingdom and Vietnam will also perform. Paul Muldoon, Pulitzer prizer winner and the organizer of the festival, said in an interview for NJ.com:
Just gradually over the course of the couple of years, I’ve put together the program, mindful again of having a balanced diet. It’s like putting together a menu.
Festival guests will also take part in discussion panels on the whereabouts of poetry in the contemporary world.
At Princeton, Różycki will present his works together with the translator of his poetry, Mira Rosenthal. As yet, two volumes of Różycki’s poetry, translated by Rosenthal, have been published in the United States. Rosenthal’s translation of
Colonies was enthusiastically received by American critics – it was nominated for numerous translation awards and won the main prize at the Northern California Book Awards competition in 2014, in the best poetry translation category.
Tomasz Różycki’s Colonies is one of the most remarkable sonnet sequences of our time: the work of a wandering, restless, and moral mind, here rendered with clarity and vividness by the translations of Mira Rosenthal – wrote Susan Stewart from Princeton University.
Princeton Poetry Festival will commence with a formal gala on 13th March 2015 and will last for two days. This will be the fifth edition of the biennial event.
