The Power of Abstraction will present brand new works by Polish artists. They all belong to the same generation and have been in an artistic dialogue for the last few years. They are not a part of any mutual collective, nor do they make theoretical manifestos together, so this will be the first time they have presented their works jointly. However, they share common sensitivities and interests that they transfer into their art. These people are definitely some of the most talented Polish artists of the current young generation, having their own abstract language and their own original methods of creation.
Bartosz Kokosiński is known for his use of multiple kinds of plastic and audiovisual forms and experimention with unconventional base elements. His works are unique object-paintings that display the artist’s expansive imagination.
Grzegorz Kozera is a canvas painter as well as a collage artist. His works touch upon topics such as identity, corporality, intimacy, transience and death. He circles around the relations between the human, the body and material coatings.
Paweł Matyszewski as an artist has an extraordinary approach toward images. Reaching across many genres and conventions, his works cross beyond the limits of traditional painting, while the original surfaces of his paintings make people want to touch them.
Works by Iza Rogucka are attempts at describing space in a philosophical way, bearing in mind areas full of physical borders just as much as emptiness. The artist often experiments with perspective and computer programmes, resulting in original, digital effects.
The main inspirations for Irmina Staś are basic existential problems and boundaries. Her thoughts on the relationship between body and mind find often their reflection in images of the insides of the body and in the conflicts appearing between its parts.
The exhibition is curated by Michał Jachuła and organised by Culture.pl in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Brest, the Polish Institute in Minsk, Le Guern Gallery and the Art Museum Branch of Brest Regional Local Lore Museum.
