A day before their performance of "Versus" in Rome, Kraków's Teatr Nowy presents "The End of the Half-Pig". This theatrical adaptation of Helmut Kajzar's play with references to Kajzar's "Star" and Franz Kafka's "Letter to his Father" and "Metamorphisis"
Directed by Jakub Porcari, the play depicts the protagonists' search to understand what it means to be a victim of sacrifice. What are the circumstances in which a human being submits to another human being?
The characters, a male and female actor, identify with archetypes of "half-breed" victims - a "half-pig" and a man inexplicably transformed into insect. Their test, however, proves that in order to complete their test, they have to abandon the techniques of traditional theatre of the theater classic and break through the confines of what has been afforded to them through the text. The woman is not just a pig but a half a pig and the insect has already been crushed. The performance is the study of communication and contact with an alien organism - breaking bounds of morality, intimacy and illusion, while confronting the expectations of the public at the same time.
The play was presented as Porcari's graduate project for the The Ludwik Solski StateDrama School in Kraków, performed on the Teatr Nowy stage in October 2010. The show has been brought to Rome thanks to the support of the Polish Institute in Rome and Teatr Nowy.
