The Polish Poster Salon feautres the latest achievements of Polish graphic artists and the main trends in national poster art. The exhibition has an open form, where the creators decide which pieces will be presented to the public. The artworks are not evaluated by a jury nor are they subjected to any kind of selection.
Diversity, color, spectacularity, freshness - these terms best reflect the character of the exposition - says Rafał Nowakowski, commissioner of the exhibition. The Polish Poster Salon is not only a current image of contemporary Polish applied and workshop graphic designs. It is also an artistic interpretation of the most important cultural, political and social events of the past two years.
Over a 100 artists participate in this year's edition, presenting a total of 500 works. Viewers have the opportunity to see posters of relatively young graphic artists as well as recent works of great masters such as: Waldemar Świerzy, Lech Majewski, Mieczysław Wasilewski, Stanisław Wieczorek, Władysław Pluta, Maciej Buszewicz, Lex Drewiński and Leszek Hołdanowicz.
The main theme of the 15th edition of the Polish Poster Exhibition is modernity, adds Nowakowski. Most of the participants are young, but already recognised artists. Looking at their achievements, we can speak of a new era in the field of poster art. The submitted works are sometimes impossible to describe withtraditional or conventional categories - often, it's something like a post-poster. Their features are futuristic designs, avant-garde art solutions, that often almost reach the limits of communicability, visual bravado and aesthetic rapacity.
Polish Poster Salon is organised every two years since 1987 as a periodic, nation-wide show. The exhibition takes place at the Poster Museum in Wilanów alternating with the International Poster Biennale.
Commissioner: Rafał Nowakowski.
The exhibition opens on the 7th of July 2011 and runs through the 4th of September 2011.
