Madrid’s La Casa del Lector, a cultural hub on the Iberian peninsula, hosts the first event in the newly launched series Wisława Szymborska in Spain and Latin America.
The array of happenings is launched with a reading session by Spanish actress Julia Gutiérrez Caba, who interprets the poems of the Polish Nobel laureate in the translations by Abel Murcia Soriano and Gerard Beltran. The poems were previously published on the record Leyendo a Szymborska, accompanied with music by Urszula Dudziak.
The readings take place as part of the official opening of an exhibit presenting Spanish audiences with the imaginative cut-outs and collages by Wisława Szymborska. Opening night is hosted by Michał Rusinek, secretary of the Wisława Szymborska foundation.
Other highlights of the opening include a screening of the documentary Chwilami życie bywa znośne – Przewrotny portret Wisławy Szymborskiej / At Times Life is Bearable by Katarzyna Kolenda-Zaleska.
The evening is organised by Babel Studio and the Polish Institute in Madrid. More events in the series will follow in November and December, hosted in Argentina and Mexico.
